Adrian (about) swims with dolphins (and not sharks)

A week or so ago we went out snorkeling with some friends at our favorite spot.  We had been there all afternoon and were about ready to head home, but we were waiting for Adrian to come in from snorkeling (by himself).  Our friend started waving her arms (because she was speechless) and we looked to where she was waving, and saw two very large animals swimming not too far from Adrian snorkeling.  They looked like sharks to us, and we all began screaming at Adrian to come back.  (It's kinda sad to hear a 6-year-old screaming to his daddy because he thinks he's going to be eaten by a shark).  Adrian looked and quickly swam to a dock out in the water until they were gone.

So since then, there has been much speculation and questioning amongst us and the other people who were there about what we actually saw.  It is funny how we all have a different perspective of the events- how big they were, the color, how they swam, how long they were actually swimming above the surface where we could see them, etc.  We found out that they might have been Tiger Sharks, of which babies have been seen before in the area.  Of course they may have been dolphins, like some of the people sitting at the bar said, but they may have been tourists, and what do they know?

So I decided I wanted (and needed- we snorkel at this location a lot) to know what exactly we saw.  I went back and spoke with the owner of the restaurant/bar who has been there for years, and she said they were definitely dolphins, although they were huge and were a lot closer to shore than normal.  I can now breath a little easier, and Adrian now wishes that he would have known to swim closer and swim with the dolphins!

By the way, these aren't the real photos of that day- I didn't really have my wits about me to start taking pictures.  And identifying what they were was not as easy and clear cut as these pictures look.

Goodbye Elder y Hermana Allred

Goodbye today to Grandma and Grandpa Allred. We had a great time together and are thankful we were able to cross paths while they are on their mission in the Caribbean.

First day of school

Brennan and Payton began their first day of school today at Ross University Preparatory School here in St. Kitts.  They are excited to meet new friends and start a new adventure.  Brennan has gotten good at making friends- this is his fifth school to attend and he is only in 1st grade. Actually, everywhere we go he finds kids (of any age- ranging from babies who are Damon's age to probably 15 years) and asks them if they want to be friends.  Of course they always say "yes" and he has a new friend, even if it is only for a half hour while we are in the grocery store.

YEA!!!

See, no big deal.  The car was easy to get out! Thanks Chad.  And we're glad we brought the plastic shovels!

A portrait of Beth today

Here is a portrait of me today, walking the mile to our home with 7 bags of groceries (including milk and frozen chicken- heavy) and a 30-something pound baby on my shoulders.  The other two kids are not included in the portrait because they were behind me quite a ways, crying "Daddy, Daddy, come help us..." but it was to no avail, he was busy at work, the other people who could help were in a meeting at the church at the time, and I wanted to get home as quickly as possible to get out of the heat and the wet clothes from the swamp we had to walk through.  I'm just thankful I don't live in a place where this is part of every day life for the woman.

To find out why we were having this little adventure today, see previous post.

OOPS!!

Normally I stay out of the posting of blogs, this is left to my wife. However, I felt a need to post this blog....

She decided to venture out and look for boogie boarding waves while I was at work....

When she went to turn around the vegetation hid the hole that she ended up driving into....

Just another adventure that we will look back on and laugh about.... I hope!!

PS- I will let you know if and when we actually get the car out!
